There are a lot of things that you need in a camper van such as gas bottles, Europe breakdown kit, utensils. The list goes on, but these are the items we purchased for our new camper straight away.

1 – Vinyl – click here to see our vinyl post

We wanted to personalize our camper van and add some color so we applied vinyl to the table and to the cupboards to get the feel we wanted. It was a fairly quick thing to do and we had some experience with our previous camper van.

2 – Camping chairs – Higear VegasHelinox Sunset chair

Originally we bought Higears Vegas XL chairs which are very comfortable. However after a little while we realized they took up too much space as they are very bog when packed. We wanted to invest in a chair which was lightweight, small and comfortable as we did not include the chair and table add on during the configuration of our van. The Helinox Sunset chairs are so small and compact, we even take them to the beach and can carry them on short hikes. They save so much space which is crucial in a camper van.

3 – Ridge Monkey XL

We had a Ridge monkey in our VW California and used it a lot. It was very worn so when we got our new van we decided it was time to upgrade to a newer version. We still use it almost daily to cook all sorts of things and it wouldn’t be the same without it!

4 – Ecoflow Delta 2 + 220W Solar panels

We did not add any extra leisure batteries or lithium options when configuring our van so we purchased a more portable and sustainable option with the Ecoflow. We can now stay off the grid longer and charge the Ecoflow using our 12v while driving, via the mains or using the Solar panels. It has worked flawlessly for us and we use it daily. It lasts approximately 4/5 days charging 2 phones, 2 Ipads, a hotspot, laptop and more. We can also use it to power our Air fryer or even our van.

5 – Air Fryer

Another game changer and one that links with the Ecoflow above. We have a small 800w air fryer which we use to cook a variety of things and makes cooking for the kids much easier. It takes up a lot of power from the Ecoflow but as we can charge it easily it means we can use it whenever we want. It is a luxury item for van life but one we wouldn’t be without.

Honorable mention – Set of draws.

At the back of our Hymer under the bed is the garage area which gives a lot of room however what we found lacking (like always in a van) was storage space, more specifically for food. It may be because we are a family of 4 but we managed to find some plastic bathroom draws which slide out and fit perfectly in that space. We can access them by simply sliding the step away  which is must easier then emptying the back to get to a box.
