Mercedes Hymer Free s600 Tips & Tricks!

We have been traveling in our new Hymer Free s600 for 3 months and still have a few months to go but a long the way we have come across some things which make life a little easier. These are our top tips & tricks so far for the Mercedes Hymer Free s600.

1 – Be careful with the bench seat

Underneath the bench seat has two compartments which gives you access to the boiler and some of the cut offs for various pipes. However in our opinion the way the doors are secured are too flimsy. They are held on with little plastic clips and if you stand on the seat to get to the pop top or if you kneel on the seat with any weight, they will snap. Our tip would be to be as careful as possible when sitting/standing on the bench sea to avoid the cupboard sections. I would also strongly recommend ordering some extra so if you do snap them, you can replace them easily. We ordered ours from Southdowns Motorhome Centre

Tip – There is a cupboard above the fridge which has a section which uses the same clips. If you do break the ones under the bench seat, you can replace one or two with ones from in there until you replace them.

2 – Buy some extra rubber sink plugs

We really like the sink and hobs on the Hymer Free s600 and they work well for us however the glass sits on rubber washers when closed and these rubber washers have a tendency to pop out. You can order spare rubber washers on Ebay which are extremely handy to have. We have lost multiple which always pop of when you least expect them to and most of the time fall down the sink.

3 – Make use of the space in the pop top for storage

The pop top in the Hymer Free s600 is much better in our opinion than the VW California in that there is space to keep things while travelling. We keep the ladders up there, the bedding, a pillow and all our waterproofs or spare clothes in the space around the edges. There is a lot of space up there which you can make use of.

4 – Vinyl table and cupboards to protect them

Check out our Vinyl post here. If you have kids, it is a life saver and can be easily changed if needed. We have applied vinyl to our cupboards and our table.

5 – If you want more storage, consider draws instead of boxes for easier access

When we first received our Hymer, we bought a large box from B&Q in order to keep extra food in the back of the van. However, when we started travelling we realised that it was actually v very hard to access when we needed something as we had other things stored on top (like an inflatable kayak). We quickly swapped this box for a set of bathroom draws which fit nicely and allows us to access things quickly form inside the van.
