Hymer Free s600 – Our 2023 Configuration

Although we have been in a lucky position to be able to buy brand new Camper vans, configuring your own camper can be a very daunting task. It certainly was for us with our Hymer Free s600. You’re spending a lot of money and you want to get it right and make sure you have what you need without going over the top with expensive extras. We were not new to vehicle configurations having already been through it with our VW California Ocean.

At the time we had tonnes of questions, firing them at our sales rep and it was no different this time. I feel like descriptions on the available extras seem to be very vague which does not help. This is why we have put together a list of our configuration below and why we selected each extra.

If anyone is in a similar position with Hymer Free s600 Vans and would like to discuss it, please let us know via Instagram/email

Packages

Chassis Package

Includes – Semi auto climate control, Electric mirrors, Dab radio, 92l fuel tank.

Why – This was recommended to us by the company we configured the vehicle with however we did want the larger fuel tank and electric mirrors.

Driver assistance package

Includes – Active lane assist, attention assist, high beam assist, traffic sign assist, heated windscreen, insulated glass.

Why – There were some features we did want but this was also recommended to keep the resale value of the vehicle.

Ready to camp package

Includes – Blinds for the cabin, black 16in Alloy wheels, additional socket and 2 USB, 2 pillows and utensil bag.

Why – The main driver (no pun intended) for us to pick this package was the alloy wheels in black. In our opinion it looks much nicer.

Style Package

Includes – Front bumper in the vehicle colour, Chrome grill.

Why – Personal preference, we preferred the look of the bumper in the same colour rather than the plastic black bumper. I know some people prefer the style of the standard bumper.

Other optional extras for Hymer Free s600:

  • Mbux system – multi media system which was a must for us with all the feature it includes. This was also a must in order to use the reversing camera.
  • Truma combo heater – Diesel and electric heater, we will be in the van in the winter months as well and thought it best to upgrade the heating system.
  • Automatic transmission – for ease of driving when on motorways
  • Bed conversion for seat – just in case we cannot pop the roof, it gives us access to another bed in the cabin area.
  • Isofix – with two infants this was also a must, we thought it came with two isofix points but it turned out there is only one fixture for an Isofix seat. bear this in mind when buying.
  • Leather steering wheel – for a more premium feel.
  • Colour – Tenerife Grey – We originally asked for black however on the recommendation from the company we used, we changed it to Grey. They had explained that the black can show scratches more than another colour and we were also happy with Grey as this matched our previous van.
  • Reversing Camera – a must as this is a bigger van than we are used to. This is something that can also help reduce your insurance I believe.
  • Heated seats – a luxury we had in our previous van and one we did not want to give up.
  • Sleeping roof in vehicle colour – We felt like we needed the sleeping roof to give us enough space to sleep comfortably. This gives us two full double beds.
  • Cruise control – we added this to test as we have never used something similar in our previous vans.
